Once you start, you cannot stop.
You most likely prefer wet and fatty biltong and don't want to have any issues with your biltong becoming mouldy or stale! General practice of keeping your biltong “safe” to consume will still apply – keep in a cool dry area, consume within two days. Two days is a long time, if you know how tasty our products are!
What if you prefer to take your time to eat your stash?
1) Storing wet and dry biltong
Short Term Storage:
Keep your biltong in a brown paper bag inside your fridge or cool dry area for a maximum of two days. Shuffle twice a day to allow the biltong to breathe!
Long Term Storage:
Vacuum sealing works the best and allows you to keep your biltong in a freezer for up to 12 months!
Going International or Long Distance:
Be sure that the bag sits tightly around the biltong and that your biltong is whole, not sliced.
General Note:
Always try to store your biltong as whole pieces and only cut what you need. Flies and ants can spoil your biltong so be sure to keep your package closed.
What to avoid:
Avoid keeping biltong in normal plastic bags or plastic containers as the biltong will become mouldy due to the moisture build up.
My biltong is mouldy, what now?
If your biltong does develop white mould, wipe it off with a little vinegar as this is not harmful to you. However, if your biltong is showing green or black mould please do not consume as this will be harmful to you. Rather learn your lesson and eat it quicker next time. ;-)
